![]() ![]() Personally, I think the hype about file formats becoming obsolete was exactly that - just hype. It may also be possible to open these old NEFs in the new Capture NX-D application, but I haven't tried, as I retired my D1 years ago. These files can still be opened in other RAW processing applications, some of which are arguably better than Nikon's own software. They may have "retired" other camera NEFs as well, but I can't say that I know if they have or not. To my knowledge, Nikon has only stopped supporting D1 NEF files in Capture NX2. I don't think that there will be any issues processing old NEF files. I also store my images in NEF format and agree with Orbmiser. But there are enough user base that use NEF I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. 10 years down the line and something better will come around I'm sure. As long as Nikon is around then wouldn't worry about this format. I store in NEF and don't have any worries. I have been told that if the software gets outdated, one might not be able to access NEF format pictures in future. Is this the right practice or there is a better format for storing your work and still remains accessible in future? I am currently storing my photos in NEF format (the format I shoot in). ![]()
